For those who aren't already aware, the recently broadcast second season of High Stakes Poker bore witness to the largest pot in the programme's history.

Although the World Series has hosted many a mammoth pot (the final encounter of this year's Main Event would be a good starting point), these are merely tournament hands and don't equate to the actual sum won by the victor.

On renowned TV show, High Stakes Poker, however, we are dealing with cash games, and, in that sense, 575k is an astronomical amount of money to be won in a single hand of poker.

In fact, unless I am mistaken, this surely has to mean that, in terms of cash games, this is the biggest ever televised pot - a claim that will surely boost the ratings of the already highly celebrated  poker broadcast.

The hand is question occurred between 'Great Dane' and multiple WPT victor, Gus Hansen, and World renowned poker superstar and multi-millionaire, Daniel Negreanu.

With Hansen raising to $2,100 preflop with Pocket Fives, Negreanu shoved in $5,000 with Sixes, and Esfandiari made the fold from the big blind with A-Q off, stating that he wasn't ovely keen on taking on Hansen and Negreanu out of position. Not surprisingly, Hansen called.

On a rainbow flop of 9-6-5, Hansen check-raised Negreanu's bet of $8,000 to a mere (cough) $26,000. Negreanu called.

Amazingly, but painstakingly for Negreanu, the turn brought another Five, subsequently leading to Hansen's bet of $24,000, and again, Negreanu called.

All the money flew in on the 8 River with Hansen check-raising his Quads. With $408,700 in the pot, it's another $167,000 for Negreanu to call, which he indeed does.

A rather choked Negreanu flipped over his Full House (Sixes over Fives) and looked on in dismay as Hansen revealed the nuts. "Sick," commented Negreanu as the massive $575,700 pot swung its way over to the Dane.

An incredible hand and just another glimpse at why High Stakes Poker has turned into the success it has.

With monies at the table increasing all the time, surely it won't be too long before that record is broken again. My mouth is watering at the prospect - a million dollar pot perhaps? You never know...
