You Gotta Know When To Hold 'Em

Okay, he may not be THE Kenny Rogers, but he certainly looks a little like him, and he shares the same surname.

Either way, this weekend, JEFF Rogers became the Brighton Summer Shaker Champion, netting himself a rather lucrative £7,300, his second biggest win to date.

As per usual, a host of familiar names made it down to the Grosvenor Casino in Brighton; Dave 'elblondie' Colclough (left), Ian Woodley, Luke Patten, Stuart Nash, Paul Parker, Joe Grech and Steve Bovis, just to mention a few. Even that tikay off the tele made it down, this time accompanied by an ever dangerous Maria 'Chili' Demetriou, fresh off her Sheffield victory and hungry for more.

Whilst most of the aforementioned fell at the early levels, Jeff Rogers was in full steam ahead mode, starting Day 2 with an impressive 53,400.

Not too far behind was Sunny Chatta with 37,700 and blonde's resident hero Tom 'RED-DOG' McCready with 33,300. But the chip leader was renowned chatterbox, Paul Parker, thankfully donning slighty less garish attire than his WSOP outifts.

However, with 5 remaining, it was the lesser known Alan Dean (right) who led the way with 180k, his eyes firmly set on that mouth-watering £10,800 first prize, not to mention the sparkling trophy that awaited the lucky winner.

And with Parker (T-T vs K-K), McCready (A-Q vs A-T), Levene (K-Q vs T-T) taking 5th to 3rd respectively, it appeared as though that dream would become a reality for Dean.

However, Jeff Rogers had other ideas, confident that he could take over the chip lead and go onto to win the title - and that's exactly what he did.

With Jeff (left) raising 25k prelfop, Alan made it another 70 and Jeff subsequently called. All the spondoolies flew in on a 6h-8h-8d flop with Jeff's Tens holding out against Alan's Kh-9h flush draw. With no heart or King arriving, Jeff rose triumphantly as the Summer Shaker Champ, a presitgious honour indeed.

So, congratulations to Jeff and also to Sir RED-DOG who took home a useful £4,000.

Next stop - oh, Brighton again. Crikey!
