Whilst a Main Event win is generally regarded by many as assurance of an easy life, that claim couldn't be further from the truth for 2006 Champ, Jamie Gold, who after having to endure a seemingly endless court case with former friend, Bruce Crispin Leyser, has now been dropped by online giants, Bodog.
After just 5 months into the sponsorship deal, a spokesman from Bodog.com officially announced the termination of Gold's endorsement, stating that 'other market decisions' were the result of the relationship's demise.
With Bodog removing media advertising from non-poker sources, perhaps they saw the 37-year old Californian as not cost-effective and therefore surplus to requirements. Cynics, however, will of course look at the court case, and Gold's constantly challenged character as a potential reason for the termination, but unless we receive further statements from Bodog, then we'll probably never unearth the truth.
And so, whilst Bodog wish Gold well in future endeavors, the former talent agent is now a free agent himself, lacking connections with any specific brand or cardroom. My quesiton is, do PokerStars fancy a full house of WSOP winners? Only time will tell...
